Well, it's finally here...RROC! After a period of planning and organizing, we held our first F2F meeting on September 25. Response was positive - about 30 people attended. We have, however, a total of 80 people that expressed interest in online learning. Many could not make the meeting...and this is the value of the online portion of RROC...after all, online learning is anywhere, anytime learning right?...so neither distance nor time should exclude anyone from accessing resources.
Gord McBean has created a WebCT account for everyone who has expressed interest in RROC (thanks Gord!!)...As a steering committee, we decided to use WebCT to host the online portion of our community...(the setup was much easier than designing a web page), and because we would serve mainly RRC staff, many already had a WebCT account.
Files handed out at our first meeting are posted in "Files & Presentations". The PowerPoint notes are posted as well.
One of the difficulties with online communities is creating and sustaining interest. If a person accesses the community several times, and finds no new information or resources, he or she will soon lose interest. So I encourage involvement, contribution, and discussion from anyone interested in online learning. Online learning is a new field, and any contributions or thoughts to RROC are welcome - there are no experts!!
A goal of this site is to share resources, views, news, and information related to online learning at RRC. If you are interested in expressing views (or simply to disagree with mine), contact me. I will be updating this page every week (Monday). So check back often...
Enjoy RROC!
