I responded to the email Nancy Ball sent out about the vision for Learning Portfolio Management (RRC - Vision Learning Portfolio). I think this is a great opportunity for instructors to be involved in helping to shape the future of RRC. My response (of course!) was slanted in favour of greater development in online learning.

Current development at colleges and universities around the world indicates that online is the future of education (mind you, this doesn't mean that all education will be online...brick and mortar schools will still exist, they will "blend" learning in classrooms with online learning...). Institutions that form a well thought out online vision learning will be the leaders...

RRC is already well ahead of other schools in Manitoba (and ahead of many in Canada) when it comes to online learning...no reason why we can't increase the gap...! One of the exciting aspects of online learning is increased market...suddenly we can play in others' sandbox...and the potential student base grows substantially.

Many of the unique trades at RRC are suited to this...Most hospitality schools (as an example) have not moved online as aggressively as RRC's has. The leaders will become not only developers of online resources but retailers as well...late comers will likely purchase resources rather than develop them.
