Talking Heads
Here is a useless piece of information...(Talking Heads - IM)...apparently you can now use Instant Messenger and have a "talking head" that functions even at low speed connections...unfortunately it is not an actual face, only a 3D representation...obviously the next stage (on a large level...I'm sure it exists now, but is not generally availalbe) will be IM with actual video, allowing for great interaction between instructor/student...
Acronym Overload
This is an article I came across several months ago...(LCMS) an excellent introduction to Learning Content Management System. The article discusses LMS, LCMS, RLOs...while incorporating useful graphics.
Learning objects are discussed frequently in online learning sites. General consesus is that they represent the next "dimension" of online learning. Learning objects offer the ability to customize learning, reduce costs, increase efficiency of the learning experience, and offer JIT (just in time) training.
This, of course, is within the context of the euphoria that greets any new concept. Give it a few months/years, and "practice" will have instructed "promise", and the view of learning objects will be dramatically different. They will, however, propably figure predominately in the future of learning.
