I think I'm getting stressed over the expanding vocabulary relating to online learning: Computer Based Training, Computer Mediated Learning, e-learning, m-learning (mobile learning - PDAs etc), Web Based Training....blah, blah, blah...
Today, I came across an article that brings on a whole new term: A-Learning. "...a-learning focuses on skills, which learners develop through experience as they perform work and complete tasks... Thus, learning moves from a passive information transaction to a knowledge transfer interaction that manifests itself in daily work habits."
Hey...great idea...I agree...
My irritation rests with the creation of new terms everytime someone draws out one aspect of learning...what happens is new instructors to online learning are overwhelmed at the INCREDIBLE amount of acronyms and definitions...someone, somewhere has to begin speaking in a language that communicates precisely and clearly, without adding a new word to define every new concept...half of these terms will be obselete in a year.
Good resource: HorizonLive - Lecture Series...a few interesting upcoming lectures (which are free...): "How to Be a Successful Online Instructor" (Oct. 25) and "Live Chats in Online Learning" (Oct. 31).
