Good link for instructors....eModerators...the article is fairly "academic", but it does have some good information...make sure to read the section titled: "Training to teach online"...

The author lists five stages that elearners go through in order to achieve competency:
1. Access and motivation
2. Online socialization
3. Information giving and receiving
4. Knowledge construction
5. Development

By the way...does anyone have any links/resources that might be of benefit to others involved in online learning? If so, email them to me (click on "Contact Me" to the left of this page...), and I can highlight them here...thanks!

On Tuesday we held a F2F meeting of RROC...Michel LeBlanc presented Campus Canada...and association of colleges offering online learning. While the organization is still in development mode, a pilot is slated to begin in January, 2002.

I found the concept of an online consortium interesting...developing online courses can be expensive, so there is much value in collaboration with other instituitions...

I guess one of the reasons collaboration is a big deal in higher education instituitions is to answer the growth of private, for-profit education providers...groups like U21Global, Canadian Virtual University, etc. attempt to provide courses and services that will keep universities and colleges as the first choice for training and education.

In order for organizations to be successful in the "new" era of education, one of two things must happen: Universities/colleges must think more like businesses, or for-profit education providers must think more like educators. At this time, it would appear as if the for-profit companies have a "leg up" on colleges and universities.

A concept like Campus Canada has much potential (it is certainly a needed response to profit educations advancement on what used to be college/university territory)...check out: Campus Connection
