Quote:
Technologies such as streaming video, virtual learning environments, and teleoperated experiments are entering the Web-based learning arena. Along with the development of a second-generation online education infrastructure, it will be necessary to consider changing the interface of education—reinventing pedagogy for the new interface, including multimedia and hypermedia enhancements (emphasis mine...), and creating the educational standards necessary for generalized deployment.

I like it!!! l think that technology is only beginning to impact education. When consideration is given to the HUGE impact that technology has had on business, education has been virtually untouched by technology. There is great promise for increase access to, and quality of, education (due to technology). Some of the criticisms that are leveled against online learning will be solved with technology (especially the capacity for increased collaboration as video and virtual learning environments develop)...other criticisms, however, will not be solved...after all, face to face instruction adds an element to learning that technology cannot duplicate...
