Further to the MIT OpenCourseware mentioned last week: Princeton Quits Alliance
Quote:
"Princeton University has dropped out of an elite distance learning collaborative, announcing last week it will join schools like Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in opening up its online academic resources to anyone who wants access."
Came across a cool site from Columbia University: Columbia Interactive...coincidentally, Columbia U. is also the "parent" company of Fathom...Columbia's bold foray into online learning...both are sites are worth exploring for ideas...
More on 802.11
Quote:
"The mission of 802.11g was to boost the data transmission to the so-called "turbo" rates of 54 Mbps while still maintaining interoperability with earlier specs. This way, consumers (and enterprise users, vendors, investors and just about everyone else) who bet on earlier versions of the technology would know how the market would eventually evolve."
Here is an article that all designers should read: Jakob Nielson - Beyond Accessibility
Quote:
"With current Web design practices, users without disabilities experience three times higher usability than users who are blind or have low vision. Usability guidelines can substantially improve the matter by making websites and intranets support task performance for users with disabilities."
Comment:
Accessibility for people with disabilities has received much attention in the U.S. Unfortunately, I have not heard of similar focus in Canada. Increasingly, design for people with disabilities is a consideration in the creation of websites. Elearning, with its promise of anytime, anywhere, (and now, anyone) learning should involve people who traditionally may not have access to education due to disabilities.
